박주연 변호사는 2012년 한국 변호사로서 실무를 시작하였고, 2013년 카라 생명권네트워크변호인단의 일원으로 에쿠스비글견 사건 수사촉구 기자회견, 동물보호법 개정작업 등 주요 동물권 활동에 참여하였다. 2017년 동료 서국화 변호사와 함께 동물권연구변호사단체 PNR을 설립한 후 현재 PNR 구성원 변호사들과 함께 동물권 관련 입법 촉구 및 자문, 동물학대 사건 고발, 동물권 소송, 동물법 강의, 칼럼 기고 등 활동을 이어가며, 동물의 법적 지위 및 권리 신장을 목표로 노력 중이다. 논문으로는 반려동물 의료체계의 문제점 및 제도개선방안(환경법과 정책, 2017), 저서로는 동물보호법 강의(박영사, 2020)가 있다.

Joo Yeon Park has commenced practicing in law in 2012, and participated in several significant animal-rights activities such as urging for investigation and punishment of animal cruelty cases and for the amendment of the animal protection law in Korea. In 2017, she established a pro-bono group of lawyers supporting animal rights, ‘People for Non-human Rights (“PNR”)’ with her colleagues, and has since advocated animal rights and the improvement of legal status and welfare of non-human animals. Joo Yeon Park and the other PNR members deal in animal cruelty and protection legal cases, provide lectures and write books and columns regarding animal rights and laws.
