이범연 대사는 2019년 외교부를 정년 퇴직하고 한국외교협회 부회장에 취임하여 협회 공공외교 및 유튜브 활동에 참여하고 있다. 이범연 대사는 2016년부터 3년간 주요르단왕국대사로서 한∙요르단 우호관계 증진은 물론 시리아 내전 및 대 ISIS 전쟁으로 인한 시리아 난민 및 요르단에 대한 국제사 회의 지원에 참여하였다. 또한 이범연 대사는 2012-2015년간 일본 센다이 주재 총영사로서 영사관할지역인 일본의 북동부 6개현에 있어서 양국 관계 개선 및 2011 동일본 대지진과 쓰나미 피해 지역 지원에 적극적인 활동을 하였다. 이범연 대사는 전남대 영문학과를 졸업하고 1983년 외무고시를 통해 외무부에 입부하였으며, 1987년 미국 워싱턴대학교에서 일본학을 전공하고 국제관계학, 석사학위를 취득하였다.

Ambassador LEE Bom-yon has joined the Korean Council on Foreign Relations as vice-chairman after he retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2019. Ambassador Lee had served as Korean Ambassador to Jordan for three years from 2016, where he actively played a role representing the Republic of Korea, one of the key donor members supporting Jordan and the international organizations to overcome the human security crisis in the turmoil of Syrian war and war against ISIS. Ambassador Lee was Korean Consul-General in Sendai, Japan from 2012 to 2015. He made his utmost efforts in enhancing Korea-Japan bilateral relations and tried to contribute to the local communities’ efforts in overcoming such a natural disaster of the East Japan earthquake and consequent tsunami occurred in March 2011. Ambassador Lee graduated from the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies of the University of Washington, USA in 1987 with a master degree in International Relations.
