Ambassador Sha Zukang was Ambassador of Disarmament Affairs, China from 1995 to 1997. In 1997 – 2001, he served as Director General of Department of Arms Control in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China. In 2001 – 2007, he was Permanent Representative of The Permanent Mission of the China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland. In 2010, he was nominated as the Secretary General of the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). During 2007 – 2012, he served as United Nations Under Secretary General, in Department of Economic and Social Affairs. He was China’s Chief negotiator of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in his position as Chinese Ambassador of Disarmament Affairs.

Sha Zukang 대사는 1995년부터 1997년까지 UN 군비감축부 중국 대사를 거쳐 1997년에서 2001년까지 중국외교부 군축국장으로 재직했다. 2001년부터 2007년까지 제네바주재 중국대표부 대사로 재임, 2010년에는 2012 UN 지속가능발전 정상회의 (Rio+20)의 사무총장으로 임명되었다. 2007년부터 2012년까지 경제사회국 UN사무차장(Under Secretary-General, 각료급)의 직책을 맡았다. UN 군비감축부 중국 대사 임기 중 포괄적핵실험금지조약의 중국측 대표 협상자로 활동했다.
