Joost Hiltermann은 국제위기그룹 중동담당 프로그램 이사로 해당지역 관련 연구, 분석, 정책 및 대외활동을 총괄하고 있다. 국제위기그룹 내에서 수석운영담당관(13-14), 중동 프로그램 부이사(07-12), 중동 과장(02-07) 등을 역임하였다. 전문분야는 이라크, 바레인, 예멘, 요르단, 이스라엘-팔레스타인 및 안보위협, 권위주의와 민주화, 이슬람 정치, 세속주의 등을 중심으로 한 역내 이슈이다.


As MENA Program Director, Joost Hiltermann leads the organisation’s research, analysis, policy prescription and advocacy in and about the region. Previously, he was Crisis Group’s Chief Operating Officer (2013-2014), in which capacity he was responsible for the oversight and management of the organisation’s programs and operations around the world. Prior to that, he was Crisis Group’s Deputy Program Director for the Middle East and North Africa (2007-2012) and Project Director for the Middle East (2002-2007), helping to manage a team of analysts deployed throughout the region. His areas of expertise include Iraq, Bahrain, Yeman, Jordan, Israel-Palestine and Middle East regional issues such as security threats, authoritarianism and democratisation, political Islam, sectarianism.
