펀드매니저 출신으로 2014년부터 메리츠자산운용의 대표이사를 맡고 있다.
1991년 세계 최초의 자산운용회사인 스터더 스티븐스 앤 크럭(Scudder Stevens & Clark)에 합류하여 “코리아펀드”를 운용하며 미국 월가에서 펀드매니저로 큰 명성을 쌓았다.
메리츠자산운용의 대표를 맡은 이후 한국의 투자문화 변화를 주도하고 있다. 금융에 대한 잘못된 인식을 바꾸기 위해 버스 투어를 진행하여 7년여 간 약 1,000여 건의 강의를 통해 5만여 명을 만났고, 유튜브 “존리라이프스타일주식”을 개설하여 각계각층의 사람들에게 금융문맹 탈피를 설파하고 있다. 이를 통해 본인의 경험과 철학을 모국의 투자자들에게 전해주는 것이 자신의 소명이라고 말한다. 저서로는 “왜 주식인가”, ”엄마 주식사주세요”, “ 존리의 부자되기 습관”, “존리의 금융문맹 탈출”이 있다.

John J. Lee is the CEO of Meritz Asset Management a Korea domiciled asset manager established in 2008.
Prior to Meritz, Mr. Lee was a Managing Director and a senior portfolio manager at Lazard Asset Management. Prior to Lazard, Mr. Lee was a Managing Director at Scudder Stevens and Clark (Later acquired by Deutche Bank) where he managed ‘The Korea Fund’ since 1991 until he joined Lazard in 2005. The Korea Fund was the first NYSE listed closed-end fund to invest in Korea.
In 2014, John Lee returned to Korea as CEO of Meritz Asset Management and focused on changing Korea’s investment culture. In order to change society’s misconception about investing in the stock market, John Lee has met with more than 50,000 people through over 1,000 lectures during the past seven years. He has also launched “John Lee Lifestyle and stocks” on Youtube in order to promote financial literacy and convey his own experience and long-term philosophy to investors in his home country.
