김기정은 국가안보전략연구원 원장이다. 연세대학교 사회과학대학 정치외교학과 교수를 지냈으며 외교부 공공외교자문위원 위원장, 일본 코베대학 ･ 홋카이도대학의 방문교수였다. 이전에는 국가안보실 제2차장을 역임했으며, 연세대학교 행정대학원과 동서문제연구원 원장으로 재직했다. 한국정치학회 부회장, 연세대 학생복지처장, 외교통상부･국방부･청와대 외교안보정책실 정책자문위원 등으로 활동했다. 김기정 원장은 코네티컷대에서 정치학 박사 학위를 받았다.

Dr. Ki-jung Kim is the president of the Institute for National Security Strategy(INSS). Before joining the INSS, he taught and conducted research in the field of international relations, East Asian international history, and foreign policy at the Department of Political Science and International Studies in Yonsei University. Dr. Kim served as policy advisor for the Korean government: for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Unification, and National Defense during 2004-2008. He performed as a Dean of the Graduate School of Public Administration at Yonsei University and the second deputy of the Office of National Security in 2017. He received Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Connecticut.
