마 샤오화는 일본 오사카교육대학교에서 조교수로 재직 중이다. 일본 오차노미즈여자대학에서 인문학, 사회과학 석사학위를 취득하였으며, 동 대학에서 역사학 박사 학위를 취득하였다. 2002년-04년에는 하버드대학교 일본학연구소에서 초빙연구원으로 활동하였다. 연구 분야는 세계사, 미국의 외교정책, 미국-동아시아 국제관계이며, 이와 관련된 다수의 논문을 작성하였다. 2000년에는 일본미국학회에서 시미즈 히로시 도서상을 수상하였다.

Ma Xiaohua is an associate professor at Osaka Kyoiku of Education in Japan. She received her master’s dgree in art/social sciences and Ph.D. in history from Ochanomizu University. In 2002–04 she was a visiting scholar at Harvard University's Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies. Her research areas include global history, U.S. foreign policy, and U.S.-East Asia relations, and she has written a number of papers related to this. In 2000, she was awarded the "Shimizu Hiroshi Book Award".
