정미애는 2017년 12월부터 2020년 11월까지 주니가타한국총영사를 역임했고, 2021년 1월 외교부 퇴직후 금년 3월부터 세종연구소 동아시아협력센터 객원연구위원으로 활동하고 있다. 이화여대 정치외교학과 졸업후 동대학원에서 정치학 석사를 취득, 일본 쓰쿠바대학 국제정치경제학연구과에서 석·박사 학위를 취득했다. 현대 일본정치에서의 정책결정과정, 특히 시민사회의 정치적·정책적 영향력 분석이 주요 연구테마이며, 점차 한일관계에서의 시민사회·지자체 교류 등으로 지평을 넓혀가고 있다. 국민대 연구교수, 일본 고베대 객원교수, 템플대 재팬캠퍼스 객원연구위원 및 주일한국대사관 선임연구원 등을 역임했으며, 13년간에 걸친 일본 체재 경험과 외교 현장에서의 경력 등을 바탕으로 한일관계 개선·발전에 기여할 수 있는 실천적 학문을 추구하고 있다.

Miae JUNG served as the Korean Consul General to Niigata in Japan from December 2017 to November 2020, and has been a visiting research fellow at the Center for East Asian Cooperation of the Sejong Institute since March this year after retiring from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She graduated from Ewha Womans University, earned a master's degree in political science from the graduate school and got a master's degree and a doctor’s degree in the department of international politics and economics at Tsukuba University in Japan. The main research theme is the policy-making process in modern Japanese politics, especially the political and policy influence of civil society in the process, and she is gradually expanding her research area to the role of civil and local exchanges between Korea-Japan relations. She was a research professor at Kookmin University, a visiting professor at Kobe University, a visiting researcher at Temple University Japan Campus, and a senior researcher at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Japan. Through the experiences of 13 years in Japan and diplomatic fields, she is pursuing practical studies that can contribute to the improvement and development of Korea-Japan relations.
