Dr. KWAAK is a globally recognized visionary, architect of peace and has long been active in the promotion of global peace and world citizens movement. He founded the WCO, World Citizens Organization in 1987, and WCO’s immediate activity was to organize SAO, Seoul Assembly of Olympeace. As a response to any boycott of the previous Olympics, SAO received supports from President Gorbachev to President Reagan and realized the full participation without any boycott and eventual ending of cold war era.
He is also a policy planner, architect and landscape architect. His body of work over four decades includes Seoul Subway and 1988 Olympic Park, Seoul Long Range Comprehensive City Plan, Plan for Daejon, Yeosu and some 50 other cities in Korea; Sinai Technology Valley, Egypt; Ahanta West, Ghana; Sidi Abdellah, Algeria; UN City, D.R.T., of UNDP/ TRADP, Tumen River Area Development Program; and the Lumbini Vishwa Shanti Nagrama, World Peace City, Lumbini, Nepal.
He is Chairman of Silk Road City Forum consisted of 53 cities and 41 Chambers of Commerce in the Eurasian Continent headquartered in Urumqi, China. He also serves as Global Advisor to the IBC, International Buddhist Confederation in New Delhi, India and LDT, Lumbini Development Trust in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Dr. Kwaak is a graduate of MIT and Harvard University and was Distinguished Professor at Jeju National University. Over the years, he has taught in Seoul National University, Hongik University, Korea University and various universities around the world.

곽영훈 회장은 세계적으로 인정받는 평화의 설계자/건축가로 세계시민운동을 활발하게 전개해왔다, 1987년 WCO, World Citizens Organizations를 설립하고 SAO, Seoul Assembly of Olympeace를 조직하여 서울올림픽 이전 올림픽들에서 있었던 보이콧을 막고자 ‘평화호소문’을 전세계 지도자들에게 보냈다. 이에 고르바초프 대통령부터 레이건 대통령까지 지지를 밝혀 서울올림픽은 세계 모든 나라들이 참가하고 이는 냉전시대를 실질적으로 종식시키는 결과를 가져왔다.
그는 정책기획가, 건축가, 조경가로 지난 40년 동안 서울지하철, 88 서울올림픽공원을 비롯하여, 서울시종합개발계획, 대전, 여수 등 50여개의 한국 도시들, 이집트 시나이반도기술도시, 가나 아한타웨스트지역, 알제리 시디압델라, 두만강UN시, 그리고 네팔 룸비니 세계평화도시까지 여러 도시들을 설계하였다.
그는 현재 중국 우루무치에 본부가 있고 53개의 도시(30억 인구), 41개의 상공단체들, 그리고 많은 시민단체들로 구성되어 있는 Silk Road City Forum의 회장과 인도 IBC, International Buddhist Confederation와 네팔 LDT, Lumbini Development Trust의 Global Advisor로 활동하고 있다.
그는 MIT와 Harvard 대학교/대학원을 졸업하였고, 제주대학교 특훈교수(Distinguished Professor)를역임하였으며, 이외에도 서울대학교, 홍익대학교, 고려대학교와 전세게 많은 대학에서 강의하였다.
