He is the author of Unwanted Visionaries: the Soviet Failure in Asia at the End of the Cold War (Oxford: Oxford UP 2014), and Two Suns in the Heavens: the Sino-Soviet Struggle for Supremacy, 1962-1967 (Palo Alto: Stanford UP 2009), and the co-author (with Campbell Craig) of The Atomic Bomb and the Origins of the Cold War (Yale UP, 2008). His next book, The First Fiddle: a History of the Cold War and After, will appear with Cambridge University Press in 2022.
