반기문 전 유엔사무총장은 2019년 4월 미세먼지 문제해결을 위한 국가기후환경회의 위원장으로, 2018년 4월 아시아 보아오포럼 이사장으로 선출된 바 있다. 2018년 1월에는 하인츠 피셔 오스트리아 전 대통령과 함께 오스트리아 빈에 위치한 세계시민센터 공동의장으로 취임하였다. 2017년 9월에는 IOC 윤리위원회 의장으로 선출되기도 하였으며, 현재는 연세대학교 글로벌 사회공헌원의 석좌교수 겸 명예회장을 지내고 있다. 2018년 2월에는 글로벌녹색성장연구소 이사회 의장으로 선출되기 전에는, 2007년부터 2016년까지 UN 사무총장으로 2년 연속 재임하기도 하였다. UN 사무총장 임기 동안, 반 전 사무총장은 가교역할을 함으로써 글로벌 빈곤층 및 가장 취약한 사람들이 목소리를 내도록 하고 조직을 더욱 투명하고 효율적으로 개선하는데 기여하였다. 기후변화 대응을 위한 행동을 촉구했던 노력은 기념비적인2016 파리 협정이 신속하게 체결 및 채택되는 데 큰 기여를 한 바 있다. 또한, UN회원국과 긴밀한 협력을 바탕으로 지속가능 발전 2030 어젠다를 수립하고 양성평등 및 여권신장을 위한 UN 여성기구를 설립하였다. 또한 UN 평화 유지활동 강화, 인권보호, 인도적 대응 개선, 폭력적 극단주의 예방 및 군축 의제 활성화를 위해 많은 노력을 기울이기도 했다. 반기문 전 사무총장은 대한민국 외교통상부 장관으로 재직 중에 UN 사무총장으로 임명되었다. 외교통상부에 37년을 몸담으며, 뉴델리, 워싱턴 및 비엔나 등의 해외 도시에서 근무하였으며, 대통령비서실 외교안보수석비서관, 외무부 미주 국장, 차관보 및 차관 등의 다양한 직무와 직책을 맡은 바 있다. 이와 더불어 UN 포괄적 핵실험 금지 조약 기구에서 남북관계와 관련된 문제에 적극 참여해왔다. 반 전 사무총장은 1970년 서울대학 국제관계 학사를 취득하고 1985년 하버드대 케네디 스쿨에서 행정학 석사를 수료하였다.

In April 2019, Mr. Ban was elected as the Chairman of Presidential National Council on Climate and Air Quality (NCCA). In April 2018, Mr. Ban was elected as the Chairman of Boao Forum for Asia. In January 2018, Mr. Ban, along with former President of Austria Mr. Heinz Fischer, were inducted as Co-Chairs of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Ban Ki-moon was also elected as Chairman of IOC Ethics Committee in September 2017. Currently, he is the Distinguished Chair Professor and Honorary Chairman at the Institute of Global Engagement & Empowerment at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. In February 2018, he was elected and has been serving as the President of the Assembly & Chair of the Council of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). Prior to these appointments, Mr. Ban served two consecutive terms as the Secretary General of the United Nations (2007-2016). Throughout his tenure at the UN, Mr. Ban strove to be a bridge builder, to give voice to the world’s poorest and the most vulnerable people, and to make the Organization more transparent and effective. He successfully pressed for action to combat climate change - an effort that culminated in the adoption and rapid entry into the landmark Paris Agreement in 2016. Mr. Ban worked closely with member states of the UN to shape the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to establish UN Women, which has been advancing the Organization’s work for gender equality and women’s empowerment. Mr. Ban also launched major efforts to strengthen UN peace operations, to protect human rights, to improve humanitarian response, and to prevent violent extremism and to revitalize the disarmament agenda. At the time of his appointment at the UN, Mr. Ban was the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea. His 37 years with the Ministry included postings in New Delhi, Washington D.C., and Vienna, and responsibilities for a variety of portfolios, including Foreign Policy Adviser to the President, Chief National Security Adviser to the President, Vice Minister, Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and Director-General for American Affairs. Mr. Ban has also been actively involved in issues relating to inter-Korean relations by serving as Chairman of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization. Mr. Ban received a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Seoul National University in 1970. He earned a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1985.
