	The 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics Winner 2019년 노벨 경제학상 수상자 아비지트 배너지는 배우자 에스테르 뒤플로, 그리고 동료인 마이클 크레머와 2019년 노벨경제학상을 공동 수상하였다. 캘커타대학교와 자와하랄 네루 대학교에서 수학했으며, 1988년 하버드대학교에서 박사학위를 취득했다. 현재 메사추세츠 공과대학 포드재단 국제 경제학 교수로 재직중이다. 2003년에는 에스테르 뒤플로, 센딜 뮬라나단과 함께 자밀 빈곤퇴치 연구소인 J-PAL(Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab)를 설립했으며, 현재까지 공동 연구소장으로 활동하고 있다. 개발연구 경제 분석국(BREAD) 의장과 전미경제연구소(NBER) 연구원, 경제정책연구소(CEPR) 선임연구원, 키엘 연구소(Kiel Institute) 국제선임연구원, 미국 예술, 과학, 계량 경제학학회(American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society) 연구원 등을 거쳤다. 또한 구겐하임 펠로우(Guggenheim Fellow)와 알프레드 P. 슬론 펠로우(Alfred P. Sloan Fellow)로 선정된 바 있으며, 인포시스 상(Infosys Prize)을 수상하기도 했다. 바네르지 교수는 수많은 논문과 함께 골드만삭스가 2011년 올해의 책으로 선정한 <가난한 사람이 더 합리적이다(Poor Economics)>를 저술했으며, 에스테르 뒤플로와 공동 집필한 최신작 <힘든 시대를 위한 좋은 경제학(Good Economics for Hard Times)>을 발표했다. 이를 통해 경제학이 현대의 사회 및 정치문제 해결에 있어 어떻게 도움이 되는지 대해 다뤘다. 또한, 유엔 Post-2015 개발 어젠다 특별고위급 패널에 참여하기도 했다. Abhijit Banerjee is the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics recipient along with his wife, Esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer, he was educated at the University of Calcutta, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Harvard University, where he received his Ph.D in 1988. He is currently the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2003, he founded the Abdul Latif Duflo and Sendhil Mullainathan, and he remains one of the lab’s directors. Abjijit Banerjee is a past president of the Bureau for the Research in the Economics Analysis of Development, a Research Associate of the NBER, a CEPR research fellow, International Research Fellow of the Kiel Institute, a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society, and has been a Guggenheim Fellow and an Alfred P. Slogan Fellow and a winner of the Infosys prize. He is the author of a large number of articles and four books, including Poor Economics, which won the Goldman Sachs Business Book of the year. Nwest book, co-authored with Esther Duflo, titled Good Economics for Hard Times, is on how economics can help us solve social and political problems of our day. He is the editor of three more books and has directed two documentary films. Aso served on the U.N. Secretary–General’s High-level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
