Sanjaya Bhatia is the Head of the Office for Northeast Asia (ONEA) and Global Education and Training Institute (GETI) for Disaster Risk Reduction in Incheon, Republic of Korea, where he has guided the training of over 8000 government officials globally.
Before taking this position Sanjaya Bhatia worked as head of the International Recovery Platform (IRP) - Secretariat at Kobe, Japan where he led the development of the Guidance Notes on Recovery and supervised a capacity building program for national and local governments, along with other knowledge management functions. He trained over 850 government officials in that period.
Earlier as the Focal Point Disaster Resilient Schools and Hospitals with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) of the World Bank he was instrumental in development of the “Guidance Notes on Safer School Construction” and the “Guidance Notes on Integrating DRR in Health Sector Projects” and financing of projects on safe schools and hospitals.
He has worked with the Government of India (Indian Administrative Service), the World Bank, and the United Nations in the field of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for over 30 years.

산자야 바티아는 한국 주재 유엔 재난위험경감사무국 동북아사무소 및 국제방재교육훈련연수원(UNDRR ONEA GETI) 대표로 재직 중이다. 인천에 소재한 이 곳 사무소는 전 세계 8,000명 이상의 정부 관료를 대상으로 재난위험경감 관련 역량강화 프로그램을 진행해왔다.
산자야 바티아 대표는 UNDRR 한국사무소 소장으로 부임하기 전, 일본 고베에서 국제회복플랫폼(IRP) 소장으로 재직하며 재난 회복 관련 참고 지침 개발 및 중앙/지방 정부 관료 대상의 역량강화 개발 프로그램을 관리 감독하였다.
그 이전에는 세계은행 재해저감복구 국제본부 전문가로서 ‘안전한 학교 건설 및 재해위험경감과 보건 프로젝트’에 관한 참고 지침 개발과 안전한 학교 및 병원 프로젝트 재정지원에 참여했다.
바티아 대표는 인도 정부, 세계은행, 유엔 기구의 재해위험경감과 기후변화적응 분야에서 30년 이상 종사해왔다.
