Lyu Seung-reul was born on July 20, 1956, received a Ph.D. in Korean History, College of Humanities, Seoul National University, and is currently a professor at Kangwon National University. As a major in Korean modern and contemporary history, he focuses on the development of Korean capitalism and life history. He has a lot of interest in history education as well and served as president of the History Education Research Association. He has also participated in research to resolve the historical conflict between Korea, China, and Japan, and worked as a research member of the 2nd Korea-Japan History Joint Research Committee. Recently, he participated in international academic symposiums on history education held at several universities, including the East China Normal University in China to promote understanding of the history of Korea and China.

류승렬은 1956년 7월 20일 출생으로, 서울대학교 인문대학 국사학과에 박사학위를 받고, 현재 강원대학교 역사교육과 교수로 재직 중이다. 한국사 전공으로 한국의 근현대와 역사교육에 연구의 중점을 두고 있다. 역사 갈등 해소와 역사 이해 증진에도 많은 관심을 갖고 있으며, 역사교육연구회 회장을 지냈다. 아울러 한국·중국·일본의 동북아 3국 간 역사 분쟁과 그 해소를 위한 연구에도 참가해왔으며, 제2기 한일역사공동연구위원회의 연구위원으로 활동했다. 최근에는 한국과 중국의 역사 이해 강화와 바람직한 역사교육 방향 모색을 위하여 중국 화동사범대학을 비롯하여 여러 대학에서 개최된 역사교육 관련 국제 학술 심포지엄에 참가한 바 있다.
