Kyung Sun has received degrees of MD(1981), PhD(1990), and MBA(2007) from Korea University. Dr. Sun is a skilled cardiac surgeon, a researcher, an educator and an administrator.
After board-certified (1986), he has operated over several thousand cases of thoracic and cardiovascular surgeries. As a researcher, he has involved in medical device developments including Korea artificial heart and ECMO. As an educator, he has served as a professor of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery department and Biomedical Engineering departments of medical school together with KU-KIST Graduate School at Korea University. As an administrator, he served as a vice president of Korea University for medical planning and budget, Director of R&D Promotions Bureau at Korea Health Industry Development Institute, and CEO & Chair of Osong Medical Innovation Foundation.
Dr. Sun has founded Korea Artificial Organ Center and also played a key role in academic societies such as National Academy of Medicine Korea, Korean Society for Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery (Board-chair), Korean Society for Biomaterials (President), Korean Society of Medical & Biological Engineering (President), Asia-Pacific Society for Artificial Organs (Vice-president), Presidential Council for National Science & Technology.

선경 교수는 고려대학교에서 MD(1981), PhD(1990), MBA(2007) 학위를 받았다. 선경 교수는 심장수술 외과의사이며, 동시에 연구자, 교육자 및 행정가의 역할을 수행해 왔다.
흉부외과전문의 취득(1986) 이후 현재까지 수천 건의 심장, 혈관, 일반흉부 수술을 집도하였다. 연구자로는 한국형 인공심장과 생명구조장치를 포함한 다양한 의료기기 개발에 참여해 왔다. 교육자로는 의과대학 흉부외과와 의공학과, KU-KIST 융합대학원의 교수를 동시에 역임하면서 많은 후학을 양성해 왔다. 행정가로는 고려대학교 의무기획처장, 한국보건산업진흥원 R&D진흥 본부장, 오송 첨단의료산업진흥재단 이사장 등을 역임하였다.
선경 교수는 한국인공장기센터를 설립하여 학문 간의 융복합을 통해 국내 최초의 인공장기 종합개발을 노력하였고, 국내외 다양한 학회에서 중심적인 역할을 수행해 왔다. 대한민국 의학한림원 정회원, 대한흉부외과학회 이사장, 한국생체재료학회 회장, 대한의용생체공학회 회장, 아시아-태평양 인공장기학회 부회장, 국가과학기술위원회 운영위원 및 전문위원, 국가과학기술심의회 전문위원, 세계생체재료학회 펠로우 (FBSE) 등.
선경 교수는 바이오헬스 분야 발전에 기여한 공을 인정받아 메디슨 의공학상(2001), 보건의료기술대상(2008), 옥조근정훈장(2013) 등을 수상한 바 있다.
