Dr Pho Kaung is the Rector of University of Yangon (UY). Before taking this position, he has been Pro-rector of UY since 2009. He has also been leading a team of researchers from various disciplines as a professor of Physics at Universities’ Research Centre. Prior to that, he had worked as a teaching-cum-research staff at the Physics Department, UY for 23 years. He received his Doctorate degree in Physics from Hokkaido University, Japan. He supervised over 200 research projects of postgraduates in MSc, MResearch and PhD programs specializing in Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science. He has published over 40 articles in international and regional research journals. He has also given a talk on “Myanmar Strategy in Research” at the British Council Global Education Dialogue in July 2014 held in partnership with the Myanmar Ministry of Education and United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

포 캉 총장은 현 총장 직무를 수행하기 전에 2009년부터 부총장으로서 동 대학에서 역임했다. 또한 동 대학 산하 연구소에서 물리학 교수로 다수의 연구팀들을 선도하며 23년간 물리학 교수로 재직했다. 그는 일본 북해도 대학에서 물리학 박사를 수여 받았으며 물리, 화학 그리고 컴퓨터 공학 관련 분야에 200개가 넘는 석.박사 논문들을 심사했다. 그의 논문 및 저서들은 40개가 넘는 국내 및 국제 저명한 학술지에 실린 바 있다. 2014년 7월에 “미얀마 전략 – 연구조사를 통하여”라는 제목하에 미얀마 교육부, 유네스코, 영국문화원에서 공동으로 주최한 국제교육토론회에서 특별강연을 한 바 있다.
