김홍균 대사는 외교부 한반도평화교섭본부장을 역임(2016.2-2017.9)하면서 북한 핵문제, 한반도 평화체제 등 대북한 정책 업무 전반을 담당하였으며, 특히 같은 시기 북한의 전례 없는 핵과 미사일 도발에 대응하여 우방국 및 관련국들 과의 긴밀한 연계하에 국제사회의 대북한 제재 및 압박체제 형성에 기여하였다. 김 대사는 2015 외교부 차관보, 2013 국가안보실 정책조정비서관을 각각 역임하였으며, 약 33년간의 외교관 생활을 통해 평화기획단장, 주 유럽연합 대사관 공사참사관, 북미국 한.미 안보협력관, 주 제네바대표부 1등서기관을 포함하여 외교부 본부 및 재외공관에서 다양한 직책과 업무를 수행하였다.

Kim Hong Kyun is a former Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Issues and Head of Delegation to Six Party Talks of the Republic of Korea. He previously served as Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senior Secretary to the President for Coordination of Foreign and Security Policies at the Blue House. He was Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the European Union and assumed various positions in other Korean embassies to the countries including the US, Switzerland and Thailand.
