천영우는 현재 한반도미래포럼의 이사장직을 맡고 있다. 북한의 긍정적 변화와 한반도 장래문제 및 통일전략 수립에 관한 논의를 목적으로 지난 2013년 6월에 설립된 사단법인 한반도미래포럼은 다양한 실무경험과 식견을 갖춘 각 분야 최고 전문가들을 결집하여 국내 외교안보분야의 새로운 Think tank로 자리매김하고 있다.
1977년 제11회 외무고시를 통해 외무부에 입부한 천영우는 1980년대와 1990년대에 거쳐 프랑스, 모로코, 오스트리아 등에서 서기관을 지냈다. 그 후, 외교정책실장 (2005년 1월 - 2006년 4월), 한반도평화교섭본부장 (2006년 4월 – 2008년 4월), 주영국대사 (2008년 5월 – 2009년 11월), 외교통상부 제2차관 (2009년 11월 – 2010년 10월) 등의 요직을 지냈으며, 2010년 10월부터 2013년 2월까지 이명박 정부의 대통령실 외교안보수석비서관을 마지막으로 33년간의 공직생활을 마감하였다.
공직생활 중 천영우는 대내외 안보정책, 특히 대북문제와 비핵화 문제 등의 분야에서 경험과 연륜을 쌓았으며, 2003년 5월 13 NSG Plenary Meeting의 의장을 지내고, UN 미사일 패널로서 활약하며 대량살상무기 확산금지분야에서 국제적인 입지를 쌓았다.
천영우는 1952년 부산 밀양에서 출생하였으며, 1977년 부산대학교 불어과를 졸업하고 1994년에는 미국 콜럼비아대학교 국제학 석사학위를 취득했다.

Chun Yungwoo is chairman and founder of The Korean Peninsula Future Forum (KPFF), a think tank with a particular focus on strategies for positive changes in North Korea and an eventual unification of the Korean Peninsula. He is also a columnist for DongA Ilbo, one of major newspapers in Korea.

Chun served as National Security Advisor to President Lee Myung-Bak for the second half of President Lee’s term from October 2010 to February 2013. Before his appointment to the Office of the President, he spent 33 years in public service as a career diplomat. He served in key posts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including as the Second Vice Foreign Minister (October 2009-October 2010), Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, Head of the ROK Delegation to the Six-Party Talks (February 2006-April 2008), and Deputy Foreign Minister for Policy Planning and International Organizations (January 2005-April 2006). His senior overseas assignments include Ambassador to the United Kingdom (May 2008-November 2009) and Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York (June 2003-January 2005). He also served in France, Morocco, and Austria as a junior and mid-career diplomat in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Chun has extensive expertise in the areas of international and national security policies, geopolitics of Northeast Asia and in dealing with North Korea. He has earned international credentials in the field of WMD nonproliferation, serving as Chairman of the Nuclear Suppliers' Group (NSG) in 2003 and as a member of the UN Missile Panel (2003-4). He remains an active participant in international discourse on nonproliferation and disarmament as a member of the Nuclear Crisis Group under the auspices of Global Zero and the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament (APLN).

Chun was born in Milyang on January 27, 1952. He graduated from Pusan National University with a B.A. in French in 1977 and received a Master of International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University in 1994.
