최운도는 현재 동북아역사재단에서 연구위원으로 활동하고 있다. 연세대학교를 졸업하고 미국 콜로라도 주립대학에서 박사학위를 받았다. 그의 박사학위 논문은 “일본 방위비의 정치경제학“이다. 그의 주요 연구 주제는 미일관계, 일본외교정책, 그리고 영토분쟁 등이다. 2012년에는 1년간 방문교수로 일본 나가사키 대학에서 활동하였으며, 2018년에는 1년간 방문학자로 미국 조지워싱턴 대학의 엘리엇스쿨 시거센터에서 활동한 바 있다. 동북아역사재단에서는 정책기획실의 정책팀장, 일본연구소의 소장 등을 역임하였다. 최근 그의 학술논문에는 다음과 같은 것들이 있다: ”한일관계의 거버넌스: 한일 지자체 교류를 중심으로.“ 한국정치연구 (2017), ”미일관계와 일본의 국가전략: 전후체제로부터의 탈각?“ (2016), ”패전국 일본이 본 우리의 광복: 일본의 식민지 지배와 전후처리“ (2015).

CHOI, Woondo received his B.A. from Yonsei University in 1987 and Ph.D. from University of Colorado in 1997. After working as a research professor at Yonsei University, he has been a research fellow at Northeast Asian History Foundation since 1998. Returning from his research at Nagasaki University, Japan as a visiting professor, he worked as a Policy Team Director for three years. For the year 2016, he was the Director of the Institute of Japanese Studies at NAHF. In 2018, he has been affiliated with Sigur Center in Elliot School of George Washington University, as a visiting scholar. US-Japan relations, Japan's foreign policy and territorial dispute are his recent major research interests.
