신효승은 동북아역사재단의 한일역사문제연구소(Institute for Korea-Japan Historical Issues) 연구위원이다. 신효승은 대한민국 육군(Republic of Korea Army)에서 소령(Major)으로 근무하였고, 군에서는 주로 전역 계획(campaign plan) 및 작전 계획(military operation)을 수립하는 업무를 담당하였다. 연세대학교(Yonsei University)에서 한국 근대사를 전공하였으며, 국제 관계를 연구하여 논문 “20세기 초 국제 정세 변동과 한인 무장 독립운동”으로 박사학위를 받았다. 최근 그는 전쟁사를 중심으로 연구를 진행하고 있고, 주로 독립운동사와 한일 간의 역사문제 등에 관심이 많다.

He is the research fellow of the Institute for Korea-Japan Historical Issues, at Northeast Asian History Foundation. He served at ROK Army as Major and his major task was establishing campaign plans and military operations. After starting his academic career at Yonsei University, he focuses on the modern history of Korea, and earned the Ph.D. degree for the dissertation titled "A study on the Korean armed Independence Movement under the Changed International Situation in the Early Twentieth Century." His recent research interest is on the history of war, and focusing especially on Korean independence movement and the historical conflict between Korean and Japan.
