이찬우는 1980년에 서울대학교 인문대학에 입학하여 1986년에 동대학 국사학과를 졸업, 대우경제연구소 동북아시아팀 연구위원, 제9기 민주평화통일자문회의 상임위원을 역임함. 1999년 6월에 일본 니가타시에 있는 ERINA（동북아시아경제연구소）객원연구원으로 옮겨 동북아시아지역 경제협력에 관한 조사연구를 하였음. 2012년 4월부터 현재까지 도쿄의 테이쿄대학 현대비지니스학과 준교수를 하고 있으며 일본경제연구센터 특임연구원을 겸임하고 있음. 주요한 연구분야는 한반도를 중심으로한 동북아시아지역의 정치/경제 조사 및 동북아지역협력체계 모델연구임. 최근의 연구로는 “한국과 북한의 동북아정책”, 변화하는 동북아 경제지도(문진당, 2017), 동북아의 심장을 누가 쥘 것인가(역사인,2015) 등이 있음.

`Chanwoo Lee, is an Associate Professor at Teikyo University in Tokyo. In 1998 and 1999 before going to Japan, he was a member of the Central Committee of the National Unification Advisory Council of south Korea, which is a constitutional institution to advise the President on the formulation of peaceful unification policy. After coming to Japan, he has experienced careers at ERINA as a visiting researcher in Niigata. He is also working as a Specially Appointed Fellow at Japan Center for Economic Research in Tokyo. He is an author of articles and research papers on Korea Peninsula issue including economic cooperation among northeast Asian region, for example, “Northeast Asia Policies of South and North Korea”, Changing Economic Map in the Northeast Asia, Bunshindo,Tokyo( 2017)
