정현백은 1953년 4월 9일 한국 부산 출생으로 여성가족부 장관(2017. 7 - 2018. 9)을 지냈고, 현재 성균관대 사학과 명예교수로 있다. 1984년 이래 성균관대 사학과 교수로 재직하였고, 주로 독일노동사, 여성사분야 연구로 많은 저서를 출간하였다. 대표적인 저서로는 <노동운동과 노동자문화(1990)>, <민족과 페미니즘(2003)>이 있다.

그 외에도 정현백은 열정적인 시민운동 활동가이다. 한국여성운동의 우산조직인 한국여성단체연합의 공동대표를 역임하였고, 이어 대표적인 시민단체인 참여연대의 공동대표로 활동하였다. 주로 여성문제와 통일 평화운동에 많은 관심을 가지고 있다.

Born in Busan on April 9, 1953, Hyun Back Chung was Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (July. 7 - 2018. 9). She is currently Professor Emeritus at Sungkyunkwan University. Since 1984, she has been a professor at the Department of History at Sungkyunkwan University, and has published many books mainly on German labor history and women's history. Her most famous books are <Labor Movement and Worker's Culture (1991)> and <Nation and Feminism (2003)>.

She is also a energetic activist. She served as co-representative of the 'Korean Women's Association United', the umbrella organization of the Korean Women's Movement. She then served as a co-representative of the 'People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy'. She is mainly interested in women's issues and Korean unification/peace movement.
