Born in Jeju, South Korea, in 1962. As a native artist, he took the leading part in the local Minjung Art(democratic art) Movement, and concentrated on 4.3 Art and Public Art. At that time, he mainly created woodprint based on 4.3. In the early 1990s, he focused on progressive local culture movement as the founding member of Jeju Peoples Artist Federation, and took part in the truth commission and rehabilitation activity for enactment of Special Art on Jeju 4.3 Incident. Also, he contributed to creating the Jeju 4.3 Peace Park and Memorial Hall as a leader of exhibition department team. He worked actively in cultural policy, public art and cultural regeneration. As a artist, he held 7 solo exhibitions, and was invited to the group exhibitions over 100 times.

1962년 제주에서 나고 자란 토박이 예술인이다. 1980년대 지역의 민중미술운동을 주도하며 미술의 사회적 역할에 주목하고 4.3미술, 현장미술에 천착해 왔다. 당시 4.3항쟁을 주제로 한 목판화 작업을 주로 했다. 90년대 초반 (사)제주민예총 창립멤버로 지역의 진보적 문화운동을 주도하는 한편, 4.3진상규명과 명예회복운동에도 동참하여 4.3특별법 제정운동에 참여했으며, 4.3평화공원 조성과 4.3평화기념관 건립을 위한 전시기획팀장으로 활동해 공원조성에 기여했다. 문화정책과 공공미술 및 문화재생 등 지역문화정책가로서도 왕성한 활동을 벌여왔다. 작가로서는 7회의 개인전을 가졌으며100여 회의 기획초대전에 참여했다.
